Understanding the NDIS can sometimes feel confusing. There can be a lot of information, different types of supports and unfamiliar words to understand.
At The Diverse Collective, we believe NDIS information should be clear and easy to understand. This page provides general information to help participants, families and other people involved in a participant’s supports understand some of the options available.
Understanding your NDIS supports
Your NDIS plan is based on your individual needs, goals and circumstances. This means the supports available to one person may be different from the supports available to another person.
Depending on your plan and individual circumstances, your supports may help you with everyday activities, living more independently, participating in your community, developing skills or working towards your goals.
Types of support
The Diverse Collective provides a range of NDIS supports, including:
- Assistance with Daily Life
- Social and Community Participation
- Supported Independent Living (SIL)
- Short Term Accommodation (STA)
- Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)
Not every support will be suitable or funded for every participant. Therefore, we will talk with you about your needs, goals and NDIS plan before supports begin.
Understanding NDIS words
The NDIS uses many terms and abbreviations. For example, you may hear words such as SIL, STA, MTA, Core Supports or Capacity Building.
If you do not understand something, it is okay to ask questions.
We will explain information in simple language and help you understand information that relates to the services we provide.
Choosing your supports
You have the right to be involved in decisions about your supports.
When choosing a provider, you can ask questions about the services they provide, their experience, availability and how they will work with you.
Most importantly, your supports should consider your needs, preferences, goals and choices.
Information for families and referrers
Families, health professionals and other referrers are also welcome to contact us.
We can answer questions about our services, discuss a participant’s support needs, explain our referral process and let you know about current service availability.
